Why haven't our AI tools saved us any money?
Because most AI tools get added next to the existing process instead of replacing part of it. Adoption is close to universal now and the majority of companies still report no measurable bottom-line effect — the tool got bought, the manual step stayed.
The pattern is consistent: a team buys a tool that drafts emails faster, but the emails still need a human to check, send, log, and follow up. The bottleneck was never the drafting. Speeding up a step that was not the constraint produces no savings, just a faster version of the same queue.
The fix is unglamorous. Map where the work actually stops, remove that step, and connect what remains so nothing needs re-entering. That is a systems problem, not a model problem.
